On Tuesday, Sunny Hostin, co-host of The View, shared her thoughts on an interview discussing why she believes Kamala Harris supporters should feel justified in avoiding family members who supported Donald Trump.
Sunny Hostin: Dr Amanda Calhoun’s Interview
A psychiatrist has appeared on MSNBC and encouraged LGBTQ+ viewers to shun family members who voted for Donald Trump. During an episode of MSNBC’s ‘The ReidOut’, Yale University child psychiatry fellow Dr Amanda Calhoun was interviewed.
During a discussion about managing differing political views within families in the wake of an election many consider to be the most divisive in recent history, some panelists argued that family bonds should transcend political disagreements. However, Hostin contended that the election between Trump and Vice President Harris is a unique case.
“I have to respectfully disagree,” Hostin responded to co-host Sara Haines. “I completely see where she’s coming from, but I genuinely believe that the current president-elect is a fundamentally different kind of candidate. The things he has said and done, and the potential implications of his actions, create a moral dilemma for me—and likely for others as well. It’s not the same as when George W. Bush was elected; while people may not have aligned with his policies, he wasn’t perceived as deeply flawed in character or morality.”
While some co-hosts argued that Bush was viewed negatively by certain individuals, Hostin remained firm in her belief that Trump and Bush represent two distinct categories of political figures.
“You, Alyssa Farah Griffin, along with Mark Milley and John Kelly, cautioned us about the significant flaws in Trump as a candidate,” Hostin pointed out. “So, when individuals feel that someone voted against not just their beliefs but also against their loved ones, it’s entirely reasonable to take a step back.”
